How betel cultivation is done.
First, a suitable land for cultivation should be selected. It should be a place that receives good sunlight with good water supply and fertilizer obsorption officiency. It is very important to choose a site free of bacterial leaf stop disease.
Second, the selected land should be cleaned and prepared. The soil should be turned over and the ground should be leveled and drainage systems should be prepared the land. Later, bed should be prepared for planting betel leaves. A betel bed should be 25 feet long and 4 feet wide. At the end, the soil level in the should be 4 trenches below the ground level.
Cut the two months old betel plant as required and plant it. Spacing between rows should be 1 1/2 feet. The number of shoots required for one pit is 02. Accordingly, the entire betel bed requires 150 shoots. Cover the betel beds with the help of coconut fronds. Fertilize 21 out of 21 days. Water supply should be done well and fertilizers should be provided and maintain. Apply plant support as the buds grow.Accordingly, 75 support beams are required.
Shoots should be tied along the support during shoot growth.
Harvesting should be done after 4 months of planting betel.
The broken betel leaves are selected in to several types such as big betel leaves, long betel leaves, short betel leaves and korikan.
The selected betel leaves are arranged as shown in the diagram. (There are 20 betel leaves in on bunch.) Then the betel stalk are cut and packed on the deck. At the end, It is taken to the market or fair.
