I AM NATIVE DISTRICT

I AM NATIVE DISTRICT

The district where I was born is Kurunegala district. Kurunegala is the capital of north western province. There are several main places in Kurunegala district. Among them, Athugala stone temple, Yapahuwa, Paduwasnuwara and Rambodagalla buddha statue.

01 Athugala stone temple.

The height of Athugala rock is 325m. At the top of the rock is a temple and a large statue of Samadhi buddha. The best time to climb the rock is when the sun sets. Then you can see the spectacular views of Kurunegala city. This rock is shaped like an elephant. This is the main tourist post in Kurunegala district of Sri Lanka.

02 Yapahuwa.

Yapahuwa is located in the Kurunegala – Anuradhapura road. This is one of the most important archaeological sites in our country. A complex fort among ancient ruins in Sri Lanka. Sigiriya takes a prominent position over the fort. Yapahuwa was the capital of Sri Lanka in the 13th  century. Took care of Sri Dalada for 11 years. King Bhuvanekabahu the first ruled that time.

03 Paduwasnuwara.

In the 12th  century, king Parakramabhahu established his temporary capital in this city. Ruins and buildings are scattered in an are of about 20 hectares. Among them are the inscriptions, the ruins of the palace and the surrounding accompanying buildings. Ghangharams, dagabs, statue houses, bodhigharas and avas houses are seen.

04 Rambodagalla Buddha statue.

Rambodagalla Buddha statue is found in Rambodagalla Monaragala Temple. Made of large black stones. 67.5 feet tall. The largest statue of Samadhi Buddha in the world.
